Question: We provide optional Patient Surgical Education Class twice a month to all surgery patients. The class is offered in English and Spanish, and handouts are available in 3 other languages. The class seeks to drive informed consent, post operative information, and increase patient involvement in plan of care. Can we count this as community benefit?
Recommendation: We recommend the surgical education classes NOT be reported as community benefit. While an excellent idea and of great value to your patients, we think it is an extension of your quality patient care and therefore not community benefit.
