Providence Health & Services affiliates with Kadlec Health System
Catholic nonprofit Providence Health & Services announced an affiliation on June 10 with Kadlec Health System, a secular nonprofit that serves a region of more than 350,000 residents in southeast Washington and northeastern Oregon. The affiliation does not involve a sale or purchase of assets.

CHI St. Joseph's Children advances sainthood cause for foundress
The leadership of CHI St. Joseph's Children of Albuquerque, N.M., is advancing the sainthood cause of its foundress, Sr. Blandina Segale, SC. The Vatican has granted approval for the cause of the Sister of Charity who braved America's southwestern frontier in the late 1800s to establish health care, education and social service ministries for vulnerable people — while also purportedly confronting Billy the Kid and other outlaws, intervening against vigilante justice and advocating for mistreated railroad workers.

Grief camps offer children a safe environment for mourning
Isaac Niermann, now 6, was a great comfort and companion to his sister Gracie. Gracie — who had red hair and blue eyes and loved to play peekaboo with her health care providers — battled a congenital disorder called Kabuki syndrome. When the children's mom needed Gracie's attention, she'd call Isaac over, because Gracie always kept her eyes on her brother. Isaac used to help his sister, staying with her through her breathing treatments. Gracie died last year of pneumonia, shortly before she would have celebrated her third birthday, said the children's mother, Lauren Niermann.
