Module Three-A

ORIENTATION FOR SHORT-TERM MEDICAL MISSIONS

Orientation Specific to the Hospital St. Francois de Sales in Port au Prince, Haiti

For those going to or wanting to learn more about Hospital St. Francois de Sales
In the following video, you will hear from the staff of Hospital St. Francois de Sales (HSFS) in Port au Prince, Haiti's capital city. Its history and mission guide the hospital, which was rebuilt after the 2010 earthquake, and today it's leaders are working to make it the top referral hospital of Port au Prince's physicians. You'll also hear from an American physician who has served at HSFS for a long-term trip in its surgery center.

Because HSFS was rebuilt, in part, by $10 million in donations from CHA and its members, it holds a special place in our international outreach efforts. Thus we created this orientation video so that our members and others traveling there to conduct education, mentoring or clinical services have access to a resource that can help them understand their place in the larger picture of this historic ministry in Port au Prince. We hope, too, that it serves as an example of what others can do to help orient people traveling to other short-term medical mission locations.

Please note: This module includes questions for reflection. As each is provided, we recommend you pause the module to consider your response.
