Statement by Sr. Mary Haddad, RSM, president and CEO
WASHINGTON, DC – The Catholic Health Association (CHA) strongly opposes the proposed budget resolution that could slash $880 billion from the Medicaid program—jeopardizing essential health care for
nearly 80 million low-income Americans.
Rooted in our faith, we believe every person deserves dignity and access to quality, affordable care. We urge lawmakers to reject these harmful cuts and support policies protecting our most vulnerable.
Medicaid is a lifeline, providing coverage for one in five individuals, funding 41% of all births nationwide, and serving as the largest payer for long-term and behavioral health care. These cuts would disproportionately harm small towns and rural communities,
where Medicaid is often the primary source of care.
CHA is committed to advocating for policies that ensure health care access for all. We call on Congress to vote no on this budget resolution and protect critical health and social safety-net programs.
