ArchCare, the continuing care system of the Archdiocese of New York, has agreed to operate Wartburg, a Lutheran-sponsored health care and senior living campus in Mount Vernon, New York.
ArchCare and Wartburg entered the agreement in early February and they expect final regulatory approval in 12 to 18 months, according to a press release. ArchCare has begun providing financial, operational and administrative support to Wartburg.
Wartburg was founded in 1866 to care for Civil War orphans. Its 34-acre campus since has been transformed and includes a nursing home and rehabilitative care, assisted and independent living, a medical adult social day program, and a freestanding memory care center with 64 apartments. A second affordable housing building for seniors is slated to open in 2027.
Wartburg President and CEO David Gentner said in the release that his organization "is grateful for the opportunity to partner with ArchCare to continue to expand our ministry while maintaining Wartburg's Lutheran identity and values."
ArchCare President and CEO Scott LaRue called Wartburg "an organization that shares our mission, values and commitment to caring for the whole person — body, mind and spirit."
In 2022, ArchCare entered into a similar arrangement to assume the operations of the Lutheran-sponsored Eger Health Care and Rehabilitation Center and adjoining Eger Harbor House assisted living facility on Staten Island.
