Laurie Brown, RN, MSN

Laurie Brown is chief experience officer of CHI Franciscan Health, Tacoma, Wash. Prior to this role, Ms. Brown served as chief nursing officer of CHI Franciscan. In her role, Ms. Brown provides strategic direction and executive oversight of leading patient, provider and staff experiences within the organization.

She has an accomplished 30-year career with CHI Franciscan, holding multiple progressive nursing leadership and administrative roles. During her tenure she has held positions which include charge nurse, nurse manager, regional director of care management and interim president of St. Anthony Hospital in Gig Harbor, Wash.

Ms. Brown earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from the Washington State University Intercollegiate Center of Nursing and a master's degree in nursing from the University of Washington-Tacoma School of Nursing. Since 2005, she has served as clinical faculty for the school's Nursing and Healthcare Leadership program and is a frequent guest lecturer.

She is a member of the Northwest Organization of Nurse Executives; the American Organization of Nurse Executives; the American Case Management Association; The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International; and the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society.

She is also a fellow of the Health Care Advisory Board.


Christine BuellChristine Buell, MBA

Christine Buell is the director of leadership development for Avera Health in Sioux Falls, S.D. She is a leadership and organizational development professional with 15 years of combined experience in assessing, developing and delivering education and learning programs to meet organizational needs. Her experience includes development and training of leadership and employees in health care and insurance.

Ms. Buell currently designs and delivers leadership development programs to over 1,100 Avera leaders. Her team is responsible for fulfilling the leadership needs for six regions throughout Avera to support the organization's strategic plan and department goals. She partners with all levels of leadership to develop appropriate strategy in executing organizational change, education and development.

In 2012, she was named the Avera McKennan Employee of the Year and participated in Leadership Sioux Falls. In April 2018, she was selected for and completed Leadership South Dakota.

Previously, Ms. Buell held a leadership position with State Farm Insurance in which she managed and led a team of eight professional associates in identification, development and delivery of leadership and employee development programs. She successfully implemented four succession planning programs to support the organization's future talent needs and facilitated the Heartland Leadership Academy for over 300 agency and operations leaders.

Ms. Buell received her undergraduate degree in business administration from Mankato State University in Mankato, Minn. She completed her master of business administration degree in business management from the University of Sioux Falls. Other specialized education includes: Managing Organizational Transitions certified facilitator, Achieve Global certified facilitator, DiSC certified facilitator, Bob Pike certified trainer, Client Centered Selling certified instructor, Gallup certified interviewer.


Timm GloverTimm Glover, M.Div.
Senior Vice President, Mission Integration
Ascension Health

Timothy (Timm) Glover is senior vice president of mission integration for Ascension Healthcare Division, St. Louis. In this role he provides for the spiritual, strategic and collaborative leadership required for the deepening integration of the mission, vision, values and Catholic identity of Ascension throughout all sponsored ministries and partnerships. He works closely with leadership at the system, ministry market and local levels in defining creative ways to express Ascension's Catholic identity within the ever-changing health care environment and collaborating to support ministry market executives in their role as leaders in a ministry of the church.

Before joining the system office in October 2013, Mr. Glover served Ascension as senior vice president, mission integration, chief mission and ministry officer at Saint Thomas Health in Nashville, Tenn. Prior to that role, he served as vice president for mission services and leadership formation at Saint Thomas Rutherford, Murfreesboro, Tenn. Before these executive roles he served as a chaplain and coordinator of the stress reduction program and consultant in organizational and change management for Saint Thomas Hospital.

Mr. Glover holds a master of divinity degree in pastoral psychotherapy and family systems from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary of Louisville, Ky., and a dual bachelor of science degree in religion and psychology from Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn.

He is a retired fellow in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors and coordinated a rural pastoral counseling center and private practice for over 12 years. He has experience in individual, couple and marital therapy with background and specialization in family systems and post-traumatic stress and anxiety disorders.


Mary HillMary Hill, J.D., BSN, MA
Executive Vice President of Mission

Mary Hill is serves as executive vice president of mission for Avera Health, providing executive leadership supporting the Catholic identity of Avera by fostering commitment to the mission, vision and values. In this role, Ms. Hill is responsible for integrating Catholic social tradition, the history of Avera's religious and community sponsors and Church teaching throughout the organization.

She is also a member of Catholic Health Association's theologian/ethicist committee.

Ms. Hill previously served as Avera's vice president of ethics and an adjunct professor with Aquinas Institute of Theology, teaching health care ethics. She has held mission and ethics positions with Catholic health care ministries in Arizona and Indiana.

From 2006 to 2009, Ms. Hill was the Indiana deputy health commissioner serving in the administration of Gov. Mitch Daniels. She has also worked as a health care attorney, nursing executive and psychiatric nurse.

Ms. Hill earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing from the University of Cincinnati, a juris doctorate from IU School of Law at Indianapolis and a master of arts in health care mission from Aquinas Institute of Theology.


Sr. Carol Keehan, DC

Sister Carol Keehan, DC, is the ninth president and chief executive officer of the Catholic Health Association of the United States (CHA). She assumed her duties as of October 2005. She is responsible for all association operations and leads CHA's staff at offices in Washington, D.C., where she is based, and in St. Louis.

Sister Carol has worked in administrative and governance positions at hospitals sponsored by the Daughters of Charity for more than 35 years. Most recently, she was the board chair of Ascension Health's Sacred Heart Health System, Pensacola, Fla. Previously, she served for 15 years as president and chief executive officer of Providence Hospital, which includes Carroll Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Washington, D.C. Sister Carol has held influential roles in the governance of a variety of health care, insurance and educational organizations. She is a representative to the International Federation of Catholic Health Care Associations (AISAC) of the Pontifical Council for Pastoral Health Care and serves on the board of Catholic Relief Services, Baltimore, Md. She has served on several health, labor and domestic policy committees of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Her numerous awards and honors include the American Hospital Association's Trustee Award; the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice (Cross for the Church and Pontiff), bestowed by Pope Benedict XVI; and the Medal of Honor, the Monsignor George C. Higgins Labor Advocacy Award from the Archdiocese of Washington and the 2009 Vision Award given by Catholic Charities USA. Sister Carol has received honorary doctorates from the College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, Mass.; The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C.; Niagara University, N.Y.; St. John's University, Queens, N.Y.; Marymount University, Arlington, Va.; and DePaul University, Chicago, Ill.

She earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing from St. Joseph's College, Emmitsburg, MD, where she graduated magna cum laude, and a master of science degree in business administration from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC, from which she received the School of Business Distinguished Alumna Award in 2000 and was honored in 2009 as "an outstanding alumna who has served others in a manner that goes beyond what is required by the individual's job or profession."


Sharon RoyneSharon Royne

Sharon Royne is senior vice president for human resources for CHI Franciscan Health, Tacoma, Wash. Ms. Royne has more than 20 years of human resources experience primarily in health care.

She has worked in CHI Franciscan Health since 1996. Ms. Royne has served as employee relations specialist at St. Joseph Medical Center, human resources manager, director of employee and labor relations and associate vice president of human resources.

She is a member of the American Society for Health Care Human Resources Administration, the Society for Human Resources Management and the Washington State Health Care Human Resources Association.

Ms. Royne is a fellow in the Health Care Advisory Board Fellowship Program and holds certification as a professional in human resources. She received her bachelor's degree in business management from the University of Phoenix.


Rose ShandrowRose Shandrow, M.Div.

Rose Shandrow is senior vice president of mission integration for CHI Franciscan Health, Tacoma, Wash. Ms. Shandrow previously served as division director of mission operations and spiritual care services leading CHI's chaplaincy program, congregational health ministries, ethics committee, mission integration work and outreach throughout the region.

Ms. Shandrow serves on the boards of the Associated Ministries, Catholic Community Services and the Archdiocese of Western Washington. She is currently a member of the CHA Pastoral Care Advisory Committee.

In 2008, Ms. Shandrow was honored by CHA with the prestigious award for outstanding leader in pastoral and spiritual care.

Prior to her tenure with CHI Franciscan, she served in leadership roles at Seattle University's School of Theology and Ministry and for the Health Care Financing Administration (now known as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid).

Brian SmithBrian Smith, MS, MA, M.Div.
Senior Director of Mission Integration and Leadership Formation
CHA

Brian P. Smith is senior director of mission integration and leadership formation for the Catholic Health Association of the United States (CHA). In this role he oversees the design and production of numerous CHA programs, meetings and member convenings in addition to the development of formation and mission integration resources for use across the Catholic health ministry.

His diverse professional background encompasses theology, pastoral care, mental health, political advocacy and accountability. Prior to joining CHA he served as vice president of mission integration for the CHRISTUS Spohn Health System, a six hospital regional health system based in Corpus Christi, Texas, and a member of CHRISTUS Health. Before his regional position he was vice president of system mission at Mount Carmel-St. Ann's Hospital, part of the Mount Carmel Health System, in Columbus, Ohio, a member of Trinity Health. His career in mission is preceded by 15 years in parish ministry and service at the Department of Special Education of the Archdiocese of St. Louis. He has also served as a federal auditor with the Government Accountability Office.

At CHA he authors bi-monthly columns for CHA's journal, Health Progress, oversees several of CHA's advisory committees including: Leadership Ministry Formation, Mission Leaders, Pastoral Care and Physician Leaders. He is a member of the executive committee of the Coalition for Physician Well-Being.

He earned a bachelor of arts degree in political science with a minor in business administration from St. Louis University; a master of arts degree in divinity and a master of arts degree in New Testament scripture from Kenrick Seminary in St. Louis; and a master of science degree in clinical psychology, with an emphasis in child and adolescent development, from St. Louis University.
