Fr. Bouchard

Fr. Charles Bouchard, OP, joins CHA's mission services team as a senior director of theology and ethics beginning Sept. 1. In this role, he serves as a resource to CHA members regarding the Catholic theological and ethical tradition and its implications for Catholic health care.

Fr. Bouchard most recently was provincial of the Dominican Province of St. Albert the Great in Chicago, beginning in that role in 2011. He has held several other leadership positions, including vice president of theological education at St. Louis' Ascension Health from 2007 to 2011. He was the president of the Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis just prior, from 1989 to 2007. He earned his doctorate in moral theology from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., in 1987. He was ordained a priest in 1979.

Sr. Patricia Talone, RSM, CHA's vice president of mission services, said CHA is "extremely happy" to welcome Fr. Bouchard to its mission services team. "He brings a wealth of theological, spiritual, teaching, administrative and health care experience to his new position. An outstanding writer and teacher, Fr. Bouchard has a unique gift of explaining complex theological and ecclesial realities in a way that both educates and inspires his hearers," she said.

Sr. Talone said Fr. Bouchard brings the Dominican commitment to truth and clarity to all that he does.

Among Fr. Bouchard's many writings, is Whatever Happened to Sin?: The Truth About Catholic Morality, published in 1996 with a revised edition in 2013. He also wrote Sexuality and Morality: Answers for Modern Catholics, published in 2014.

The position in CHA's mission services department opened following the retirement of CHA Senior Ethicist Ron Hamel.
