Auxiliary founder donates $1 million to Presence St. Mary's

February 15, 2014

The woman who founded the auxiliary of Presence St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee, Ill., more than 60 years ago has given $1 million to the hospital.

During a celebration late last year, Pee Wee Massa made the donation to the hospital. The funds will go towards a cardiac mapping system that creates three dimensional models of the heart and an imaging system that reduces radiation exposure.

Massa formed the St. Mary's auxiliary in the early 1950s and served as a hospital volunteer for more than 60 years. She was a mainstay at the auxiliary's resale shop. Massa volunteered 12,951 hours at the hospital. She retired from volunteering in 2011.
