Gilden joined CHA 18 years ago as the leader of the association's legal department. She advised its president and chief executive officer, board and staff on legal and governance issues. In addition, she provided expertise to CHA members on issues involving conscience protection and other legal matters related to church teaching. She was an advisor to the CHA Membership Task Force as CHA explored and implemented changes to its bylaws to expand its membership. She also has contributed to advocacy efforts involving legislation and regulation, including filing amicus briefs in many cases before the U.S. Supreme Court on issues critical to the Catholic health ministry.

Prior to joining CHA, Gilden was a partner in the health law departments of Sonnenschein, Nath & Rosenthal (now Dentons) and McDermott Will & Emery. Her practice focused on hospital transactions and tax-exemption, and her clients included several CHA members as well as the association.

Gilden earned her juris doctor from the University of Oregon School of Law in Eugene and a bachelor's degree in international affairs and Asian studies from the University of Colorado Boulder.

Hurley was to join CHA Aug. 27 as vice president and general counsel. She was counsel at Reed Smith in Washington, D.C., which has the nation's fourth largest health care practice. She has worked on numerous health care regulatory matters, including reimbursement issues, mergers and acquisitions, audits and investigations and billing. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in history from Boston College and her juris doctor from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law.
