COVID-19 and Health Disparities
Health Disparities are further aggravated by COVID-19
For individuals experiencing homelessness or food insecurity, COVID-19 has made life even more challenging. Public health professionals recommend “social distancing” to curb the spread of COVID-19. However, for those experiencing homelessness, it is difficult to practice social distancing as they do not have consistent housing and rely on temporary housing or shelters. Even in rural communities where social distancing is easier to achieve, those who are homeless still face numerous challenges during this pandemic such as easy access to healthcare facilities as well as the internet, necessary to effectively implement telehealth programs.
