COVID-19 Vaccines Are Coming: Are We Ready for Ethical, Equitable Distribution?

The arrival of promising COVID vaccines brings hope to millions of people who have longed for a safe and effective way to bring an end to the pandemic. As we move forward on the path from fast-track research and initial approval to distribution and public acceptance, important questions arise that demand our attention.

How was the research conducted? How will we know if the vaccines are safe? Who will get the vaccines and when? How will those decisions be made equitably and fairly?

Minority communities have been hit particularly hard by the pandemic. How can health care organizations partner most effectively with these communities to ensure they have access to and trust in the vaccines and those who administer them?

Join us to engage in these and other important considerations for the new COVID-19 vaccines at CHA's new, two-part series, COVID-19 Vaccines Are Coming: Are We Ready for Ethical, Equitable Distribution?

The special series is complimentary for CHA members. Nonmembers are welcome to register at $100 per event.

The use of new scientific techniques made it possible for COVID vaccines to be developed, tested, and produced at a record pace. These technologies will certainly revolutionize the way researchers think about vaccine development into the future. Yet, as with any new scientific discovery, society should also discuss the impact it will have on the broader community. The ethical questions about the research must examine whether it will promote our values or our vices. This webinar brings together a leading researcher in the science of vaccines along with a well-regarded bioethicist to discuss the scientific and moral impact of the research.

Blacks, Latinos, Native Americans and Asians are experiencing disproportionally high COVID-19 infection and death rates. Health care organizations are mobilizing to address the disparate health and social impacts of COVID-19 on these groups by providing equitable access to vaccines, testing and treatment and tackling the underlying social determinants of health and disparities in care. This webinar will address the need to build trust and partner effectively with local communities to implement pandemic response activities that will reach those most at risk.
