The fourth generation of a family in New Brunswick, New Jersey, was born at Saint Peter's University Hospital, marking a legacy that goes back nearly a century.
Anne and Alexander Torrisi welcomed their first child, Andrew Daniel, on May 17, according to a press release from the hospital. The Torrisis were both born at Saint Peter's. Alexander Torrisi's father, Daniel, also was born there, as was his grandfather, Richard Diego Torrisi, in 1933.
"We will be forever grateful for this experience and getting to follow in our families' footsteps by delivering at Saint Peter's," said Alexander Torrisi.
Throughout the generations, many members of the extended Torrisi family were born at Saint Peter's, and they have long leadership ties to the community. Alexander's great-grandfather, Angelo Torrisi, was born in New Brunswick in 1901, six years before Saint Peter's was established in 1907. He eventually became the town's fire chief. Alexander Torrisi's father worked for New Brunswick as the city clerk and city administrator. Anne Torrisi's father, Benjamin Bucca Jr., was not born at the hospital but served on the Saint Peter's Board of Trustees.
"There's such a strong sense of trust people have in Saint Peter's," Anne Torrisi said. "My mom still talks about the breastfeeding support group she joined in 1991, and the lifelong friendships she made through it. Hearing those stories gave me so much comfort and peace about delivering here myself."
The hospital, part of the Saint Peter's Healthcare System, delivered more than 5,400 babies in 2025, making it one of the busiest maternity programs in the region.
