Saturday - Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 12 | FEAST OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE
Zechariah 2:14-17 or Revelation 11:19a; 12:1-6a, 10ab; Judith 13; Luke 1:26-38 or Luke 1:39-47

The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe speaks deeply to my faith journey. As a Cuban immigrant raised in a communist regime, religious expression was limited and lived quietly, often at great personal cost. Yet, I experienced God as a God of peace – always present, inviting renewal, and calling His people into relationship with Him and each other.

The story of Our Lady of Guadalupe reminds us that God enters history through encounter. Mary appears to Saint Juan Diego not with power, but with closeness, tenderness and cultural understanding. She speaks his language, honors his identity, and reveals God's love. That message resonates deeply in our diverse communities today.

In my ministry at HCA Mercy Hospital, I see this same invitation. Every patient, family member and colleague carries a unique story and a longing for hope. Like Our Lady of Guadalupe, we must build bridges of understanding. Genuine healing begins when people feel seen, heard and valued.

As we celebrate this feast, I am reminded that the God of Peace continually renews us through relationship, transforming differences into opportunities for communion and revealing His presence in one another.

Our Lady of Guadalupe: Pray for us!

Pray

God of the Universe, Creator of Light and Dark: You have formed us together as one body to proclaim Your peace. Draw us beyond our own narrowness to recognize Christ within ourselves and one another. Help us to choose unity – humility over pride and patience over anger. Make in us Your dwelling place, O God, that we may be worthy builders of Your Kingdom and true instruments of Your grace. Amen
