December 12 — Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe
In times of darkness, when pain or fear weighs heavily on our hearts, hope can feel distant. Yet, it is often in these moments that light breaks through. Finding hope in darkness is not about ignoring suffering but about trusting that it will not have the final word. One powerful symbol of this hope is Our Lady of Guadalupe. She appeared to Juan Diego in 1531, when the people of Mexico struggled with hardships and oppression. She came not in grandeur but in humility, bearing the face of compassion.
Our Lady of Guadalupe reminds us that God sees us even in our lowest moments. Her presence affirms that no one is beyond the reach of grace. She stands as a mother to all, especially those who suffer, whispering words of comfort: "Am I not here, I who am your mother?" In her, we find a model of strength and reassurance. She serves as the prophetic call for social change grounded in the struggles of marginalized persons. Her radiant yet tender image inspires millions to persevere through the darkness with faith. In remembering her, we are reminded that God provides signs of hope and love even in despair. Light returns, always faithfully.
