A Prayer for Peace in St. Louis

“The important thing is to not give into the temptation to confrontation … [and also] to reject all violence,” he said. “It is possible to dialogue, to listen to one another, to make plans together, and in this way to overcome suspicion and prejudice, and to build a coexistence that is ever more secure, peaceful, and inclusive.”
~Pope Francis 11/16/2014

God of compassion and peace,

You sent us your Son to show us how to live together as your children. We raise our prayer to you today to ask for healing and peace in Ferguson, in St. Louis and throughout our country. May we each search our hearts for our own brokenness, unconscious prejudices and fear of people we see as “other.”

May we find paths to reach out to our neighbors and forge new roads of unity and reconciliation in our city, country and the world. We ask this in the name of Jesus your Son, in unity with the Holy Spirit.

Amen.
