In the upcoming CHA's Health Calls Podcast episode, Professors M. Therese Lysaught and Sheri Bartlett Browne join Brian Reardon and CHA's Editor of Health Progress Betsy Taylor to discuss their Spring 2022 article entitled, "Writing Your System's Racial Autobiography." Lysaught and Browne give insight into how their work together started and how they’ve seen health systems respond to doing the hard work of visiting the past. And check out a previous podcast, Health Care Ethics and Artificial Intelligence, for a discussion of ethical concerns that arise from A.I. use, including how machine learning can contribute to systemic racism and inequity.

National Academies of Sciences: COVID-19, Health Equity, and the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Communities: Proceedings of a Workshop
NASEM's Roundtable on the Promotion of Health Equity hosted a 2-day public workshop in December 2021 titled COVID-19, Health Equity, and the Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Native Hawaiian Communities. The workshop focused on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the unique obstacles faced by the AANHPI communities in achieving health equity. This Proceedings of a Workshop-In Brief summarizes the events covered in the workshop discussions.
National Institute of Minority Health and Disparities: HDPulse: An Ecosystem of Health Disparities and Minority Resources
The NIMHD's HDPulse website provides access to data and intervention resources to identify, prioritize, and mitigate health disparities. The Data Portal provides population data with applications for calculating and mapping health disparities data, and the Interventions Portal is a searchable database of research-tested interventions that have been shown to improve minority health and reduce health disparities. This data portal provides an ecosystem to characterize health disparities and motivate action to reduce them.
American Medical Association Center for Health Equity Webinar: Racism in Medicine: Historical Foundations and Strategies for Advancing Health Equity
Racism can be a discomfiting topic for anyone, but physicians may have uniquely troubling feelings about it when they consider the roles the U.S. health system has played in perpetuating racial inequities. This webinar explored the roots of this phenomenon, as well as some of the many ways physicians can continue their health equity education and help chart a new course for their profession.
National Academies Sciences Engineering and Medicine: Review of Federal Policies that Contribute to Racial and Ethnic Health Inequities
The National Academies held a public comment session on federal policies that contribute to preventable and unfair differences in health status and outcomes experienced by all U.S. racial and ethnic minority populations. Members of the public discuss their lived experiences navigating federal programs and systems, including barriers and solutions from community members and organizations.
National Academies Sciences Engineering and Medicine: Trust, Health Literacy and Health Equity
NASEM's Roundtable on Health Literacy offered a three-part workshop series in September and October on The Roles of Trust and Health Literacy in Achieving Health Equity. The sessions explored how health literacy best practices might impact trust, and how that, in turn, might positively impact health equity, in three settings: clinical/patient-provider, public health institutions and community-based organizations.

Environmental Justice Index
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), in partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Environmental Justice, recently announced the release of the Environmental Justice Index (EJI). The EJI is the first national, place-based tool designed to measure the cumulative impacts of environmental burden through the lens of human health and health equity. This tool builds off existing environmental justice indexes to provide a single environmental justice score for local communities across the United States so that public health officials can identify and map areas most at risk for the health impacts of environmental burden.

Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute: A Rapid Review of Telehealth Strategies for the Delivery of Maternal Health Care
PCORI commissioned a rapid review to assess evidence on the effectiveness of telehealth strategies for the delivery of maternal health care. The goal of the rapid review is to evaluate the clinical effectiveness and potential harms of telehealth strategies intended to supplement or replace usual care, including alternative care models or strategies with multiple telehealth components.
Institute for Diversity and Health Equity On-Demand Podcast: Reaching for Valuable, Equitable Maternal Care
Women in America have the highest mortality rate than any other developed country, but equitable maternal care can change that. In this podcast, Priya Bathija, vice president of AHA’s strategic initiatives, speaks with globally recognized expert and leader in maternal care, Dr. Neel Shah. The Commonwealth Fund hosted a virtual symposium with leading experts from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, The Century Foundation, Urban Institute and more and explored: ideas for financing health care transformation and innovation, strategies for implementing high quality and respectful care, and how to use data to advance maternal health equity.
