This listing of recent integrated delivery activities represents various degrees and forms of integration in the Catholic healthcare ministry. Organized by region, the list includes the participants and a brief description. Although necessarily incomplete, with so many activities around the country, the information illustrates the wide scope of activities.

Arizona Healthcare Alliance

St. Joseph Hospital and Medical Center; Arrowhead Community Hospital and Medical Center; PMH Health Resources, Inc.; Chandler Regional Hospital; John C. Lincoln Hospital and Health Center, Phoenix; Lutheran Healthcare Network; Baptist Hospitals & Health Systems

Participants have formed an integrated healthcare delivery system for the Phoenix area offering a full continuum of services.

Mercy Healthcare Sacramento

Five-hospital system in Sacramento, CA

The system recently added Methodist Hospital as part of a strategy to make services accessible to persons in all parts of the Sacramento area.

San Bernardino, CA
Inland Community Health Network

St. Bernardine Medical Center and Arrowwest Medical Group; Inland Health Organization

St. Bernardine acquired Arrowwest Medical Group as part of a strategic plan to form a regional community health network.

San Diego
HealthFirst Network

Merch Healthcare (including Mercy Hospital and Medical Center and Mercy Clinic); 3 non-Catholic San Diego-area hospitals; and 10 physician groups

HealthFirst members have affiliated to form a managed care network with facilities located in key locatioins throughout the service area.

San Francisco
PriMed Management Consulting Services

Catholic Healthcare West, San Francisco; Hill Physicians Medical Group, San Ramon, CA

These two organizations have agreed to form a regional integrated health system designed to attract group purchasers.

Daughters of Charity National Health System-West Region, San Francisco; Mullikin Medical Centers, Artesia, CA

Daughters of Charity and Mullikin are forming a strategic partnership to promote integrated delivery.

MEDNET

St. Joseph Healthcare System

The system has entered into multiple arrangements with area physicians and payers to offer managed care plans to residents in the Albuquerque area.

Little Rock, AR
Healthsource Arkansas

St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center, Little Rock; Healthsource, Inc., Concord, NH

A joint venture between St. Vincent and Healthsource will offer a full array of managed care products (pending licensure by the state insurance commissioner).

Cincinnati
HealthSpan

The Christ Hospital and Cincinnati-area Mercy and Franciscan hospitals (members of Mercy Health System, Cincinnati; Franciscan Health System of Cincinnati)

Network offers managed care plans for Cincinnati-area employers.

NewHealth
Good Samaritan Hospital; Bethesda Hospital; and ChoiceCare (HMO)

Two hospitals have joined with the area's largest HMO to form an integrated managed healthcare system, emphasizing prevention and wellness.

Flint, MI
Genesys Health System

Genesee Memorial Hospital, Wheelock Memorial Hospital, Flint Osteopathic Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital

Established integrated delivery network will in 1997 open first U.S. hospital to be designed and built using patient-focused care concepts.

Northern Indiana hospitals are discussing affiliation to avoid duplication, lower costs, and simplify service delivery.

St. Joseph Mercy Hospital; North Iowa Medical Center

Hospitals have consolidated as step toward forming an integrated delivery network.

Milwaukee
Covenant Healthcare

St. Francis Health Care (parent company of St. Francis Hospital) and WFSI-Milwaukee (holding company for St. Joseph's Hospital, St. Michael Hospital, Elmbrook Memorial Hospital, and Franciscan Home Health)

The holding company currently oversees operations of these southeastern Wisconsin facilities; committees are working toward eventual integration of some services.

Oak Park, IL
Synergon Health System

Oak Park Hospital, Oak Park; Westlake Community Hospital, Melrose Park, IL; Westlake Pavilion, Franklin Park, IL; Community Nursing Service West, Oak Park; and Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Hospital, Chicago

Providers have entered into a joint venture to form a healthcare network.

Preferred HealthAlliance, Inc.

Bergan Mercy Medical Center; Immanuel Medical Center; Mercy Hospital, Council Bluffs, IA; Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company

Organization will introduce innovative health plans to ensure access to care in most appropriate setting, with an emphasis on disease prevention and health education.

Network serves as an organization to develop joint ventures between the hospitals.

Community Health Network

Holy Cross Hospital and seven hospitals in the South and North Broward Hospital Districts

Holy Cross Hospital and the two public hospital districts intend to form an integrated delivery network that will contract with managed care organizations to offer full continuum of services.

Health Network Care Plan

St. Francis Hospital; St. Joseph Hospital and Health Care Centers

This managed care network provides physician and hospital services.

New York City
Organized Arrangement (in planning)

St. Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center; St. Clare's Hospital and Health Center; Cabrini Medical Center

The three hospitals plan to form an organized arrangement that will provide a continuum of services through a Manhattan Catholic network.

Watertown, NY
Northern New York Rural Health Care Alliance

Mercy Center for Health Services, Watertown, NY, and 14 other facilities in upstate New York

The proposed alliance of rural healthcare facilities will form a managed care network.
