Mercy Health to build small hospital outside Toledo, Ohio

August 1, 2017

Cincinnati-based Mercy Health plans to build a $56.3 million facility in Perrysburg, Ohio, that will include a hospital, surgery center and medical offices. Perrysburg is located about 10 miles southwest of Toledo, Ohio. Construction is to start later this summer on the Perrysburg facility. It is to open in 2019.

Mercy Health said the construction of the 101,000-square-foot facility is part of a strategy to offer smaller, more convenient locations near where people live and work.

The facility will be part of the four-year-old Mercy Health — Perrysburg Medical Center campus, which already houses a freestanding emergency room and diagnostic center as well as a cancer center.

The new facility will have 28 inpatient beds (this is in addition to 18 beds already in the cancer center). According to information from Mercy Health, the new facility's inpatient service is designed for patients who need two to three nights of treatment or care. Mercy Health expects the facility will be able to accommodate most patients' needs. But, if patients require more complex care, Mercy Health can transfer them to Mercy Health — St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo.

Mercy Health said the population in the area served by the new facility is expected to increase by more than 4 percent — to about 82,000 residents — over the next five years.

Mercy Health has 23 hospitals and a network of other facilities across Ohio and Kentucky. About a year ago, the system opened the Mercy Health — Oregon Medical Center in Oregon, Ohio, which has imaging services, a laboratory, rehabilitation and physician offices. And in late 2015, the system opened Mercy Health — Sylvania Medical Center in Sylvania, Ohio, with a freestanding emergency room, imaging services and a laboratory.
