Wheeling Hospital completes tower construction

Wheeling Hospital of Wheeling, W.V., has completed a two-year, $50 million construction project that added a seven-story tower to the campus.

The expansion more than tripled the size of the hospital's emergency department, converted the facility from a mix of private and double-occupancy rooms to virtually all private rooms, added new accommodations for family members, upgraded technology and improved the floor layout for nurses and other staff.

The new tower includes surgical, trauma, radiology, pediatric, critical care and other units. Two floors of the tower are unfinished and will accommodate future growth.

The facility's bed count of 276 did not change with the expansion.
