Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City, Mo., has broken ground on a $137 million expansion that will add a three-story patient tower and new entrance and that will relocate physician offices and services for patient convenience.
That is according to Eric Ammons, Mercy Hospital Jefferson president, who said the construction project will enable the facility to respond to population growth and hospital census increases. The hospital design not only will add space in the short term, it also will allow for the addition of up to three floors in the future.
Mercy Hospital Jefferson's bed count of 251 will not change with the current expansion. The project will convert all semiprivate rooms to private rooms.
Ammons said the patient tower construction and the move to all-private rooms will fulfill commitments that Mercy health system of Chesterfield, Mo., made when it acquired the former Jefferson Regional Medical Center in 2013.
