Ábrenos los ojos y corazones: Open our eyes and hearts
The commemoration of Hispanic Heritage began as a weeklong celebration established by President Lyndon Johnson in 1968. In 1988, President Ronald Reagan expanded the celebration to a full month, from September 15 to October 15, highlighting the independence days of many Latin American countries. The impact these nations and cultures have had on life in the United States is deep. Many have influenced our American culture since before even our country was established! While we celebrate that goodness year-round, it is especially poignant during this current season. In these days of deep pain and division that many of our brothers and sisters are experiencing, let us hold their pain with them, and celebrate their many contributions.

Abre nuestros ojos y corazones a los dones de todos Tus hijos[SP1.1] e hijas; open our eyes and hearts to the gifts of all your children.
Ayúdanos a verlos como Tú los ves, dándonos la sabiduría de reconocer el rostro de Tu hijo, Jesús. Help us to see them as You do, giving us the wisdom to recognize the face of Your Son, Jesus.
