The World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly was established by Pope Francis in 2021 and is celebrated worldwide on the fourth Sunday of July. In the United States, the US bishops typically approve the transfer of the celebration to coincide with the national commemoration celebrated the first weekend after Labor Day.

We pray that those who are young might know Your heart in the elderly, seeking communion and conversation in earnest. We pray that those who are old may proclaim to the youth Your faithfulness, unveiling Your gifts of joy and wisdom in each day.
Eternal One, hear our prayer. Unite Your people young and old that we might be for one another a sign of hope to come. AMEN.
