MercyOne closes northwest Iowa hospital, consolidates outpatient sites

MercyOne has closed the 14-bed critical access hospital MercyOne Primghar Medical Center in northwest Iowa.

As part of the closing on Sept. 27, the health system also consolidated three outpatient facilities: MercyOne Paullina Family Medicine, MercyOne Sutherland Family Medicine and MercyOne Primghar Family Medicine Clinic. The latter clinic remains open.

According to a press release, MercyOne has redesigned the health care delivery system in this way in the Primghar area to "adjust to the significant changes in health care delivery. … This change will create a more sustainable care system for the community."

The release says MercyOne is getting in touch with patients about how they can continue their care at another MercyOne location, likely the family medicine clinic. MercyOne is offering affected employees the opportunity to transfer to other positions within MercyOne.

MercyOne has more than 230 care locations throughout Iowa. It is a member of Trinity Health, which is based in Livonia, Michigan.
