Lucas Swanepoel moves to role of vice president, advocacy and public policy at CHA

Swanepoel

CHA is promoting Lucas Swanepoel to vice president, advocacy and public policy starting Jan. 5.

Swanepoel joined CHA in 2019 as its director of government relations and was promoted to senior director of government relations in 2022.

"Throughout this time, Lucas has been an invaluable voice for CHA's advocacy efforts, consistently advancing our mission and strengthening our influence with policymakers," CHA President and CEO Sr. Mary Haddad, RSM, said in an announcement to staff about his promotion.

Swanepoel most recently served two months as the interim vice president of advocacy and public policy.

The vice president role has been held by Lisa Smith, who came to CHA in 2005, first serving as senior director, government relations. She submitted her resignation this fall.

Before joining CHA, Swanepoel was vice president for social policy at Catholic Charities USA. He has served as associate director for governmental relations at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and legal attaché for the Holy See mission to the United Nations.
