Dr. Miheret Yitayew is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and attending neonatologist at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at Virginia Commonwealth University. She provides care for critically ill newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and serves on the Neonatal Air and Ground Transport Team and the Regional Neonatal Continuing Care Program. She is the lead neonatologist in the NICU’s Small Baby Program, focusing on the care of extremely preterm infants.
A passionate global health leader, Dr. Yitayew leads the Acute Care and System Strengthening (ACCESS), Global Health Program Pediatric Acute Care Track at the VCU School of Medicine, where she lectures on global health training, fosters international partnerships, and promotes sustainable, context-appropriate approaches to neonatal and pediatric care.
Dr. Miheret attended medical school at the University of Gondar, Gondar, Ethiopia and residence at the John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Chicago, Illinois. She has a Master in Public Health from West Virginia University, Morgantown West Virginia.
