The Catholic Health Association of the United States conducted two phases of
research on short-term medical mission trips — one from the perspective and
practices of the U.S.-based partners, and the second, from the perspective and
practices of those who receive these trips in low- and middle-income countries.
Completed in 2014 - 2015, the research provides insights into the motivations
for conducting and accepting short-term medical mission trips, the costs and
timeframes for the trips, their objectives/goals – from each perspective, and
much more.
This webinar will present the findings from the Phase II study, which was
from the perspective of those in low- and idle-income countries who receive the
trip. Too, the webinar will present 20 Recommendations for Practice in
Short-Term Medical Missions, which flow from the results of the two phases of
research. While not prescriptive in nature, the Recommendations for Practice and
the accompanying questions for reflection offer Catholic health care and others
with a process for assessing any current international activities as well as
those that arise in future.
