Nursing in Catholic health care is built on the
value of respect for dignity of persons at all stages of life and the belief
that every patient deserves the highest quality of care available. For
hospitalized elders, we should strive to continually improve our nursing care to
this vulnerable population. Advances in nursing research and practice are
showing that functional decline need not be an inevitable complication for
hospitalized elders. And yet for too many seniors, hospitalization leads to loss
of physical and mental functioning. The webinar discussed how leaders
in geriatric nursing research and practice are revolutionizing nursing care of
hospitalized older adults. The webinar discussed proven nursing strategies for
maintaining physical and mental functioning, preventing infections and falls,
and promoting the well-being of elders in need of hospital care.
Presenters: Gay Landstrom, MS, RN, Senior Vice President
and Chief Nursing Officer, Trinity Health; and Marie Boltz, Ph.D., APRN, BC,
Director of Practice Initiatives, Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing, New
York University.
