Description

Sponsored by CHA and Vizient

Accounting for community benefit is as rigorous a process as accounting for all other hospital activities. First developed as a recommended framework by the Catholic Health Association and now required of all tax-exempt hospitals by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the community benefit accounting framework marries basic accounting principles and concepts unique to community benefit.

In this webinar Keith Hearle of Verite Healthcare Consulting, author of the CHA accounting and reporting framework and advisor to the IRS on the Form 990, Schedule H for Hospitals, will review guidelines and best practices for accurately and fully accounting for and reporting community benefit.

Objectives:

After participating in the webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the basic principles behind accounting for community benefit
  • Identify issues in reporting each of the community benefit categories
  • Avoid underreporting of key community benefit categories and other common errors
