Published in 2015, Pope Francis’
encyclical Laudato Si’ called on “all men and women of good will” to acknowledge
the urgency of our environmental challenges and work to change the way we work
and live to be in harmony with creation. The Pope’s appeal recognizes the
scientific consensus that human activity is causing irreversible harm to the
environment and those living in poverty often suffer the harshest consequences,
while having the least ability to cope.
Government and health care policymakers are also taking
action to mitigate the worst effects of global warming. The Biden Administration
has made a commitment to achieving a net-zero emissions economy by 2050 and the
National Academy of Medicine has plans to launch an action collaborative on
decarbonizing health care this fall. Health care organizations can no longer
wait to take action on the climate crisis.
In this webinar Gary Cohen, founder and president of Health
Care Without Harm, and representatives from Catholic health systems working to
eliminate their carbon emissions will discuss concrete actions health care
organizations can take to adopt renewable energy and achieve carbon
neutrality.
