Physician Engagement Overview

Our ministry is rooted in our belief that every person is a treasure, every life a sacred gift, every human being a unity of body, mind, and spirit. This commitment to promoting and defending human dignity means that, individually and collectively, we foster healing, act with compassion, and promote wellness for all persons and communities, with special attention to our neighbors who are poor, underserved, and most vulnerable.

Catholic health facilities provide compassionate, high-quality care to patients and residents — and their families and loved ones — addressing the needs of their bodies, minds, and spirits. Catholic health facilities and systems reach outside their walls into the communities they serve to foster health and well-being.

They also must reach out to those within their walls who are providing hands-on care each day. To help address this area, CHA is focusing on physician relations through upcoming programs and by sharing practices being initiated in Catholic health care organizations.

Feast of St. Luke

On Oct. 18, Catholics and other Christians around the world will celebrate the feast of St. Luke, the physician and companion of St. Paul whose gospel preserved the most extensive biography of Jesus Christ. This day is an important opportunity for Catholic health care to honor physicians for their compassionate, quality care. To assist in this, CHA is pleased to offer several resources for your use and sharing.

National Physicians' Week –
March 25 to 31

Each day across the Catholic health ministry, physicians offer their healing gifts in service to patients and residents; with careful skill and wisdom, physicians mend and offer aid, restoring people back to life to their families and communities as whole persons. May we honor the physicians among us and ask for special blessings upon these ministers of healing.

CHA Podcast - The Resilient Clinician

Mental health issues facing health care professionals, especially physicians, is getting more attention recently and was a major topic at CHA’s Physician Leader Forum in October 2018. One of the speakers at the forum was Dr. Robert Wicks, an author and psychologist who teaches at Loyola University Maryland and writes and lectures extensively about the prevention of secondary stress. Dr. Hicks shares his insights on how those who care for others need to also care for themselves.
