This scenario depicts a health care world driven by technology; the emphasis is on wellness promotion and disease prevention; remote physiological monitoring and heavy use of virtual communications; and increased transparency in pricing. Within the hospital walls, enhanced technological capability enables virtual way-finding, location of instruments, utilization of touch screen electronic health records and instantaneous scan results that are integrated into the electronic health record. Patients visit with care navigators who link them, as needed, to physicians, and resources such as clinical trials.
