    Catholic Health World

    September 1, 2010 Volume 26, Number 15

  • Look us over
With this issue, Catholic Health World launches a redesign that gives the paper a cleaner, more contemporary feel.
Catholic systems praised for high quality
Catholic and other church-owned health systems demonstrate greater quality and efficiency than other nonprofit or investor-owned systems, according to a new analysis by Thomson Reuters of its 100 Top Hospitals: Health System Benchmarks data.
Multitasking chaplains put yardstick to services
The U.S. health care system is undergoing significant and rapid changes — changes that have direct implications for the work of health care chaplains.
Covenant assumes sponsorship of St. Joseph in Bangor
The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Felix of Cantalice has transferred sponsorship of St. Joseph Healthcare of Bangor, Maine, to Covenant Health Systems of Lexington, Mass.
Summit to explore how to integrate services for seniors
To help Catholic health care providers prepare for the future — particularly when it comes to knitting a seamless continuum of care for older adults — CHA is hosting the first Catholic Health Strategy Summit: Integrating Services for Seniors.
CHP groups senior ministries into single division
Catholic Healthcare Partners of Cincinnati has combined its 13 senior care and housing ministries into a single division. It also named Jason Niehaus president of the division, which is called Senior Health and Housing Services.
No more guesswork, St. Elizabeth solicits advice from patients, families
A hospital's success depends heavily upon its ability to understand and meet the changing needs and expectations of patients and family members.
    Book illustrates Baltimore Mercy's story
In the world of academia, autumn is the traditional time for students to peruse course descriptions replete with required reading lists, assignments and exams.
Mercy polishes its Baltimore bonafides with new hospital
Mercy Medical Center's new 18-story, 686,000-square-foot Mary Catherine Bunting Center is slated to open at St. Paul Place — contiguous to the existing downtown Baltimore campus — in December.
Columbia St. Mary's donates supplies to Afghans facilities
At press time, three, 40-foot containers of medical supplies were en route from Columbia St. Mary's of Milwaukee to Afghanistan, where the donation was scheduled to arrive in mid August.
Providence ElderPlace looks to expand Portland-area presence
Providence ElderPlace has plans to partner with a Portland, Ore., suburb to develop a senior housing and services complex by early 2013.
Animal clinics benefit from outmoded St. Anthony's supplies
When a medical supply or piece of equipment no longer meets the standard for use with human patients it still may be useful in treating four-legged ones.
Taking a wellness message into schools
It's the start of a new school year. Students are stocking up on school supplies. Teachers are updating lesson plans. And Catholic health care providers who serve in their local schools are preparing for a fresh batch of new patients.
