    June 1, 2010 Volume 26, Number 10

  • Assembly session to highlight student-to-student alcohol abuse screens
St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Boston, a member of Boston-based Caritas Christi Health Care, had reason to be concerned about the volume of emergency room visits from inebriated college and high school students.
Bon Secours Charity Health System gives patients doses of 'charitable love'
Long before modern-day scientists attempted to quantify the role the mind-body connection plays in the healing process, health practitioners appreciated the power of positive thinking espoused by the folk adage, "Laughter is the best medicine."

St. John's clinic to benefit school, hospital, community
Shared values and common needs have brought together two Springfield, Ill. institutions - St. John's Hospital and Sacred Heart-Griffin High School.

Saint Thomas staff respond to Nashville flooding

When record-breaking flooding hit the Nashville, Tenn., area early last month, employees of the city's Saint Thomas Health Services were among those who quickly mobilized in response.

Ministry offers expertise to CRS in rebuilding Port-au-Prince hospital
CHA is tapping the expertise of its members to aid a collaborative effort to rebuild Hospital St. Francis de Sales in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
Resurrection sells nursing facility to Legacy
As Catholic Health World went to press, Resurrection Health Care of Chicago was poised to sell its nursing facility in Evanston, Ill., to Legacy Healthcare, a company that owns and operates six Chicago-area skilled nursing care facilities.
At CleanMed, health care leaders share 'green' successes, challenges
During a recent CleanMed conference here, environmental experts including some ministry leaders explored how to make hospital supply chains greener by using safer chemicals, decreasing pharmaceutical waste and other waste and reducing health facilities' use of energy and water.
    Healthier Hospitals Initiative promotes sustainability
Catholic Healthcare West and five other health care systems have formed the Healthier Hospitals Initiative to help speed the health care sector toward environmental sustainability.
St. Vincent hosts 'Eco Fair' to get people talking about ecology
St. Vincent Healthcare of Billings, Mont., drew about 100 people to an 'Eco Fair' it held on its campus just before Earth Day.
Sr. Nelson served health ministry for 48 years nearly five decades
Sr. Beverly Ann Nelson, CSC, died May 5 at age 70. She was director of mission services and community benefits ministry officer of Saint Agnes Medical Center, Fresno, Calif., a hospital that is part of Novi, Mich.-based Trinity Health.
Ministry members transform their campuses to meet changing needs
When a hospital closes, it can be very difficult for administrators to determine what to do with the empty campus.
