Internationally renowned canon lawyer, Rev. Francis G. Morrisey, OMI, presented a one hour webinar that introduces mission leaders to the basics of canon law needed in their role. During the webinar, Fr. Morrisey described the purpose of ecclesial law relative to Catholic health care as well as the qualities of a canonically-sponsored "Catholic work." In addition, he articulated the current sponsorship structures within Catholic health ministry and explore the emerging questions for future sponsorship models. Finally, Fr. Morrisey discussed some of the canons dealing with the "alienation of patrimony" that are applicable to Catholic health facilities when they are being sold or closed.
