Ethics Tracker

Winter 2012

Practice Standards Drive Excellence in Health Care
For Catholic health care, the Striving for Excellence in Ethics project emphasizes the importance of ethics committees and clinical consultation for the wellbeing of patients.

Ethics Tracker can be a beneficial tool for tracking clinical ethics consultation, doing ongoing evaluation and quality improvement of the consultation services, structuring data in a way that leads to quality improvement initiatives, and ultimately contributing to an excellent ethics consultation service.

Below are comments from customers of Ethics Tracker.

"Ethics tracker allows the health care organization to ask a set of questions at an entirely new level regarding the integration of clinical ethics consultation at the bedside. Reports generated provide the objective basis for transforming the ethical landscape of medicine."

"The Ethics Tracker database is our means of tracking and managing ethics consults. It provides us with up-to-date reports on the types of ethical issues within the health system, allowing us to plan for education and potential policy revisions/initiatives. We have also used the software to assist us on two academic publications."

"The Ethics Tracker database has enabled our institution to look at the type of consults our ethics consultation service receives by individual departments. This allows us to tailor educational needs to the specific departments and address potential policy gaps within the institution. The Ethics Tracker database provides an ethics consultation services with a tool to view the broader picture of ethics consultation within an institution or health system rather than an individual ethic consult."
