Medicines for Humanity honored the Daughters of Charity – Haiti with its Humanitarian of the Year Award on Sept. 22 at the Harvard Club in Boston. Rockland, Mass.-based Medicines for Humanity has partnered with the Daughters of Charity since 2009 to address the high child mortality rates in Haiti. Medicines for Humanity said one in eight Haitian children die before their fifth birthday.
Medicines for Humanity said the Daughters of Charity have established highly effective maternal and child health clinics in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. They said the organizations' work together in Haiti has resulted in more children receiving health care and in children having greater access to essential medicines and nutrition services.

The dinner raised more than $300,000 for Medicines for Humanities' work providing medical care for about 400,000 children in need around the world.
