The Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility is honoring Sr. Susan Vickers, RSM, and Sr. Judy Byron, OP, for their longstanding shareholder advocacy aimed at influencing publicly traded companies to adopt policies that mitigate social and environmental risks. The women will accept the organization's 2018 Legacy Award at the ICCR's annual gathering, which this year takes place Oct. 2 at the Riverside Church in New York City.

ICCR said it gives this award annually to honor people "whose work has provided a strong moral foundation and an enduring record of demonstrated influence on corporate policies." The ICCR is made up of 300 member organizations with combined assets of over $400 billion, who view the management of their investments as a catalyst for social change. The ICCR represents these members through dialogues with companies, shareholder resolutions, policy advocacy and roundtables involving multiple companies.

Sr. Vickers is the retired vice president of corporate responsibility for San Francisco-based Dignity Health. For nearly 30 years, she'd led shareholder advocacy initiatives at the system. She is a past ICCR board chair and currently serves on the boards of Mercy Investment Services, Practice Greenhealth and Health Care Without Harm. Through her work and board service, she's led or influenced numerous engagements with companies, including to address climate change, water depletion risk, global warming, gender and ethnic diversity in leadership, drug access for the vulnerable, human trafficking and consumer product safety.

Sr. Byron is director of the Northwest Coalition for Responsible Investment and program director for the Intercommunity Peace & Justice Center. In collaboration with other groups she helped to found the Peace & Justice Center as well as Mercy Housing Northwest. She's currently on Mercy Housing Northwest's board, and previously was on the ICCR board. She has led successful corporate engagements on issues including gun safety, health equity, human trafficking and sustainable food and water supplies.
