At the annual Ideagen UN Empowering Women and Girls 2030 summit at United Nations headquarters in New York City last month — a meeting aimed at charting and advancing gender equality throughout the world — a panel put together by Providence St. Joseph Health spoke about the importance of having more women enter male-dominated medical specialties. Panelists suggested ways in which a focus on improving social determinants of health can improve the quality of life for women and increase their economic opportunities. This year's meeting focused on women-owned businesses and entrepreneurship. Sr. Carol Keehan, DC, CHA's president and chief executive officer, told the audience how women religious relied on their faith and tenacity to build Catholic health care into a worldwide ministry. She also spoke about how the ministry is helping human trafficking victims. Panelists included, from left, Dr. Rhonda Medows, executive vice president of population health at Providence St. Joseph; Sr. Carol; Dr. Amy Compton-Phillips, executive vice president and chief clinical officer at Providence St. Joseph; and Dr. Rod Hochman, president and chief executive officer of Providence St. Joseph.
