Saint Francis Hospital & Medical Center in Hartford, Conn., will name its breast health center on Oct. 23 in honor of the Maximilian E. & Marion O. Hoffman Foundation, which has awarded a $1.5 million grant to benefit the center. The grant will be paid over four years.
E. Merritt McDonough Jr., president and chief development officer for the Saint Francis Foundation, said in a statement earlier this year the grant will help fund enhanced breast health services at the recently opened Comprehensive Women's Health Center.
Those services include financial assistance for patients, nurse navigators to coordinate care, and imaging and diagnostic equipment including a tomosynthesis machine for 3-D breast imaging, said Alix Boyle, a senior communications associate for Saint Francis Care.
In 1982, Marion O. Hoffman established the foundation in memory of her husband, Maximilian E. Hoffman. He died the previous year. Maximilian Hoffman was one of the first distributors of foreign cars in the U.S. The West Hartford-based nonprofit organization donates to groups that further education, medicine and the arts. Most of them are Connecticut-based.
Saint Francis Hospital & Medical Center, an anchor institution in north central Connecticut since 1897, is part of Saint Francis Care, an integrated health care delivery system.
