Wheaton Franciscan begins divestiture

On March 1, Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare's Southeast Wisconsin operations joined Ascension Wisconsin and Wheaton's Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital in Wheaton, Ill., its outpatient clinics, medical group and the Marianjoy Foundation joined Northwestern Medicine.

The Wheaton Franciscan Sisters expect to transfer their remaining health care ministry this quarter and their remaining housing ministry this year.

The transfer agreement with Ascension includes eight hospital campuses, a medical group with 330 physicians, outpatient centers, long-term care facilities and home health and hospice services. The hospitals are Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare — All Saints; Wheaton Franciscan — Elmbrook Memorial; St. Joseph, Midwest Spine and Orthopedic Hospital and Wisconsin Heart Hospital campuses; Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare — St. Francis and Franklin Hospitals; and Midwest Orthopedic Specialty Hospital, which is a joint venture, according to a news release from the systems.

The Felician Sisters of North America co-sponsored Wheaton's Southeast Wisconsin region. They also transferred sponsorship of those facilities to Ascension.
