Cardiac nurse Sev Friskney of Mercy Health — Cincinnati teaches community health workers in Kabul how to use a blood pressure cuff and what should be done to follow up on abnormal readings. Using grant money she secured on her own, Friskney traveled to the Afghanistan capital March 12 – 19. The health workers took what they learned in the one-day training to Afghani villages where they commonly operate clinics in their homes. At right, Friskney cuddles a baby during a home visit with a family in Kabul.
