CHICAGO — Sr. Judith Ann Karam, CSA, was elected vice chairperson/chairperson-elect of the CHA Board of Trustees by unanimous vote at the June 24 membership assembly, which convened during the Catholic Health Assembly here. Sr. Karam will be installed as CHA chair at the 2015 Catholic Health Assembly in Washington, D.C.
Currently the congregational leader of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, Sr. Karam previously served as the president and chief executive of Sisters of Charity Health System, a Cleveland-based organization with hospitals and care facilities in Ohio and South Carolina. She has been a member of the CHA board for three years, serving on the governance, audit and compliance, and executive committees.
Also during the membership assembly, four new members were elected to three-year terms on the board, and three current members were reelected to second terms.

In other business, delegates at the annual membership assembly unanimously passed a dues resolution granting the CHA board authority to adjust the dues rate for representative membership to the lowest rate it deems appropriate to fund operations for the first year of CHA's FY 2015-2017 strategic plan, provided the rate does not exceed that applied for FY2014.
In recent years, dues resolutions typically gave the board three-year authorization to set rates. This year's resolution provides a one-year authorization due to the current study of membership criteria now in its third and final year. Any bylaws changes resulting from the study and a new dues resolution will be presented to the membership for approval at the 2015 assembly.
