CHA is asking its members to provide input on how the association can most effectively offer its Catholic Governance Conference to trustees.
CHA's annual education conference for ministry trustees traditionally has covered foundational topics including Catholic social teaching, organizational ethics and education on the distinct roles of sponsors and trustees. This year's conference, which was held in late February in Scottsdale, Ariz., also added a forum for both new and seasoned trustees to learn about and discuss the implementation of the Affordable Care Act.
"Board members are busy professionals who can't always take time away from their schedules to attend a daylong, or two-day governance conference," said Sr. Mary Haddad, RSM, CHA's senior director of sponsor services. She directs the governance program.
CHA is exploring ways to broaden access to the trustee conference, possibly by making it more geographically convenient to participate.
Sr. Haddad added that "the program has received excellent evaluations for content from trustees who have attended in the last few years, and CHA is exploring what we can do to make it possible for more people to attend and benefit from the learning and dialogue."
During the February conference, a participant inquired if CHA would provide an adapted version of the conference during the member's annual trustee conference. Additionally, it has been suggested that a one-day conference be held prior to or after the annual Catholic Health Assembly.
