Lenten Reflections

The Catholic Health Association is pleased to present Slow & Simple: Contemplations for the Lent and Easter Season. This 14-week series of reflective images and meditations offers meaningful ways to journey through Lent and Easter.

Like the disciples, like all people of faith, may we find compassion and hope as we journey together toward the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of the One, Jesus, in whom our work in the ministry of Catholic health care is rooted.

About the Series

This liturgical series infuses ash and gold through illustrations that depict Christ's ministry, sacrifice and resurrection. As charcoal, ink, and ashes fuse with water and are enhanced with gold paint, the viewer is invited to contemplate the wonder of Christ's humanity and the new creation that begins with His resurrection.

Each week's offering includes:

  • A contemplative image
  • Scriptural meditation and prayer

About the Artist

Katie Calvert (American, born 1985) began her career in the Graphic Design industry but found herself being drawn back to her original love of painting and drawing in recent years. She currently leads a team of artists at her church to exhibit artwork coinciding with sermon series and events on the liturgical calendar. At times, her work highlights the beauty of creation; other times, she draws attention to areas of injustice in our world where there is a need for beauty.

The artist has exhibited her works at the Huntsville Museum of Art, Lowe Mill Arts and Entertainment, and the AVA Art Gallery in Chattanooga.
