We Are Called Webinar Series - Session 1: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion on Boards

Presented on January 19, 2022
The benefits of having a diverse board are clear — broader perspectives lead to deeper discussions, more comprehensive thinking and fewer missteps in implementing new programs and services for our communities, especially the underserved and vulnerable populations. And yet, a recent study shows that on average, health care boards are comprised of 87% white members and only 13% people of color.

Admittedly, increasing diversity on a board doesn’t happen overnight; it requires commitment, dedication and a shift in thinking about board recruitment and selection. For Catholic health care, striving for board diversity is an essential aspect of our tradition and mission. This CHA webinar, part of the We Are Called: Confronting Racism by Achieving Health Equity initiative, will address board diversity at all levels of a ministry including system, regional and local boards. The Honorable Maricela Moore, CHRISTUS Health board chair, and Eric Wexler, president of operations and strategy – South, for Providence Health, will provide insights and tactics for increasing board diversity in the many communities we serve.
