Understanding the Revision to Part Six of the ERDs

Presented on September 6, 2018
After several years of dialogue and consultation, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops recently approved a revision to Part Six of the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services. The revision was intended to address the increasing number and complexity of collaborative arrangements between Catholic and other-than-Catholic entities, integrating many aspects of the 17 "Principles for Collaboration with Non-Catholic Entities in the Provision of Health Care Services," promulgated by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in February 2014.

Our presenter for the webinar is Dan O'Brien, Ph.D., senior vice president, ethics and church relations of Ascension. He will address not only the content of revised Part Six, but specific ways in which it might affect our future understanding of collaboration. Dr. O'Brien has been with Ascension since 1991, first serving as vice president for ethics in 1997, and in his current position as senior vice president for ethics and church relations since 2012. He has broad experience in the application of the principles governing cooperation with other-than-Catholic systems.
