In late 2022, Congress passed a bill that contained a provision that decoupled the Medicaid continuous eligibility requirement made under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act. As part of this new law, Congress enacted a transition period that phased down the enhanced federal medical assistance percentage (FMAP) to states, ending the continuous coverage requirement on April 1, 2023. At that time, states may begin the redetermination process.
