CHA has named Brian Smith vice president of sponsorship and mission services, effective July 8. He was senior director of mission innovation and integration since 2012.
Smith assumes the role from Sr. Mary Haddad, RSM, who became CHA's president and chief executive officer July 1. As vice president of sponsorship and mission services, Smith will lead and oversee the association's Mission Services department, which focuses on mission integration, leadership formation, theology and ethics, ministry formation and sponsorship. Smith will promote a vision and understanding of Catholic health ministry as an essential ministry of the Catholic Church; serve as a CHA spokesperson on sponsorship and mission issues, in conjunction with Sr. Haddad; and maintain relationships with other national organizations and CHA members. He'll also serve on the association's core leadership group and senior management.
Smith joined CHA in 2012 as senior director of mission integration and leadership formation. Over the years, he has enhanced the quality of programming for mission leaders, executives and physicians and has led the development of many new resources and services for members. He has a proven track record of facilitating member engagement on issues critical to the ministry. Most recently Smith led the development of the CHA Ministry Identity Assessment Process and is focusing efforts on succession planning for key ministry roles.
Prior to joining CHA, Smith held various positions in the Catholic health ministry related to theology, pastoral care, mental health, political advocacy and accountability, including at CHRISTUS Spohn Health System in Corpus Christi, Texas, and at Mount Carmel-St. Ann's Hospital in Westerville, Ohio.
CHA is recruiting for a new director of mission innovation and integration.
