2020 Census
The U.S. Constitution requires a complete count of the nation's population every 10 years. The 2020 Census will kick off next spring. The goal is to count every person living the in the United States. Getting an accurate count is crucial because the data directly affect health and health care in the U.S. How much federal funding a state receives for Medicaid and CHIP is based on the size of its population according to the census — an undercount in your state means less funding for health care coverage. The Census provides the basis for accurate data on demographics, including racial and ethnic groups and on social determinants of health such as income and housing. Certain populations in particular are hard to count, including young children, people who are homeless, rural residents, racial/ethnic minorities and undocumented immigrants. To learn how you and your facility can help make sure there is an accurate count in your community, go to https://www.census.gov/partners.html.
