Fr. Frank Morrisey, OMI, is a noted author, speaker, consultant and professor of canon law. For the past three decades, he has provided invaluable advice and counsel that have guided CHA members and their sponsoring congregations through the complex process of forming public and ministerial juridic persons. In sharing his expertise and wisdom, he has helped ensure the continuity of ministries carried out in the name of the Church. His outstanding contributions in the formation of public juridic persons has greatly enhanced the role of the laity and extended the vital work of these ministries.
Although Fr. Morrisey has spent most of his career as an educator in the area of canon law, his influence extends far beyond the classroom, with a particular gift for application of law in practical situations. He willingly shares his knowledge and experience with numerous religious communities worldwide as well as with various health care organizations. As an educator, he directed many graduate students in their doctoral dissertations in canon law, thus increasing the pool of canonists available to serve the growing needs of the Church.
Fr. Morrisey has been a true friend to Catholic health care since the emergence of health systems in the 1970s. He has helped facilitate harmony and a deep understanding of Church expectations between Catholic health care organizations and the Vatican. Much of his work has involved helping hospitals and health care organizations understand and respect canon law and remain in communion with the Church.
For his countless contributions to the Catholic health ministry, CHA is honored to present the 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award to Fr. Frank Morrisey.
